Tommie Lee “Nana” Pough Jones was born on September 16, 1939 in Collins, GA to James Monroe Pough and Mary Lee Barnes. Tommie was the third child of 14 siblings. The family moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1943 when she was just 3 years old. Tommie went on to attend Duval County Schools and in December 1958, married the late Lewis W. Jones who was the love of her life. In April 1959, they were blessed with their only daughter, Penelope A. Jones. They eventually settled in their own home on the north side and remained there for the rest of their lives. During this time, Tommie worked as a cook at Duval County Medical Center and in Duval County Schools. She later purchased a school bus and became an independent contractor for Duval County Schools. She was known for her sweet prayerful words, gracious spirit and for being a mother to all who knew her.
